Bette Midler took to Twitter to remind followers about her personal #MeToo story at the hands of Geraldo Rivera, which has been out in the open since 1991 but only now has gotten any serious attention thanks to the deluge of high-profile sexual harassment scandals.

The 71-year-old entertainer posted a video that she referred to as a “gift from the universe,” one that shows her describing the way that Geraldo Rivera and an unnamed producer sexually assaulted her in the 1970s.

“Tomorrow is my birthday,” she wrote. “I feel like this video was a gift from the universe to me. Geraldo may have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, but he has yet to apologize for this. #MeToo.”

The attached interview with Barbara Walters sees Midler go into detail about her sordid encounter with Rivera: “This is when he was very, sort of, hot. And he and his producer left the crew in the other room, they pushed me into my bathroom, they broke two poppers and pushed them under my nose, and proceeded to grope me.”

“Grope me!?” a flabbergasted Walters interjects.

“I did not offer myself up on the altar of Geraldo Rivera,” Midler continued. “He was unseemly. His behavior was unseemly.”

In the wake of Lauer’s termination from NBC News amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, Rivera sympathized with the axed “Today” host.

“Sad about @MLauer great guy, high skilled & empathetic w guests & a real gentleman to my family & me,” he wrote. “News is a flirty business & it seems like current epidemic of #SexHarassmentAllegations may be criminalizing courtship & conflating it w predation. What about #GarrisonKeillor?”

Rivera quickly apologized after his tweets sparked a backlash, but he has yet to acknowledge Midler’s story.
