A Nebraska woman who was last seen posting about her upcoming Tinder date on social media was found dead after going missing for nearly three weeks. Authorities have yet to release the cause of death.
Sydney Loofe, a 24-year-old from Neligh, disappeared shortly after sharing a Snapchat story captioned “ready for my date” on November 15. It wasn’t until Monday that her family learned the tragic news.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we share this most recent update with you all,” read the Finding Sydney Loofe Facebook page run by her family, linking a story by the Antelope County News. “May God grant eternal rest unto thee. We love you Sydney.”
At the time of her disappearance, Loofe’s friend Terra Gehrig insisted that it was highly unusual for her to vanish.
“This is not normal behavior of Sydney’s so something as to be wrong, this isn’t something she would do,” Gehrig told KLKN.
Her friend said that Loofe had gone on a first date with a woman she met on Tinder and was excited to go out for a second date. That woman, identified as 23-year-old Bailey Boswell, was taken into custody alongside her roommate, 51-year-old Aubrey Trail, as “persons of interest” pending further investigation, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
Boswell and Trail live in Wilber, which is also the last place that Loofe was seen as well as the last place that a cell tower received a ping from her cellphone. The pair also took to the Finding Sydney Loofe page offering to tell “our side” of the story.
“We’re not trying to defend anything,” Trail says in the nine-minute video. “We’re not trying to make you believe anything. We just feel we should get to say our side since everyone else gets to say theirs.”
Boswell claims that she picked up Loofe on the day of their second date, drove around together while smoking marijuana, smoked some more at Boswell’s house, and then dropped Loofe off at a friend’s house.
