The long-lasting feud between President Donald Trump and CNN reached a new level on Saturday after the network ran an erroneous story claiming that WikiLeaks had given the Trump campaign dibs on hacked Clinton campaign emails.

“Fake News CNN made a vicious and purposeful mistake yesterday. They were caught red handed, just like lonely Brian Ross at ABC News (who should be immediately fired for his ‘mistake’). Watch to see if @CNN fires those responsible, or was it just gross incompetence?” Trump wondered.

Trump’s attack on CNN stemmed from a story penned by Manu Raju and Jeremy Herb titled, “Exclusive: Email shows effort to give Trump campaign WikiLeaks documents.” The report claimed that Trump’s team received on email on September 4, 2016, offering a decryption key that would allow the campaign to gain access to the purloined information.

Hours later, the Washington Post released a counter-report indicating that the email had crucially gotten the date of the email wrong: it was actually sent on September 14, not September 4. WikiLeaks published the information linked in the email on September 13, so there was actually no story there to report.

By late Friday, CNN had amended the story to include a correction as well as a revised headline: “Email pointed Trump campaign to Wikileaks documents.”

To Trump, though, the insult had already landed.

“CNN’s slogan is CNN, THE MOST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS. Everyone knows this is not true, that this could, in fact, be a fraud on the American Public,” he blasted on Twitter. “There are many outlets that are far more trusted than Fake News CNN. Their slogan should be CNN, THE LEAST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS!”
