A New Hampshire man who was scrambling to resist arrest decided to turn the tables on a police dog that was used to take him down by chomping on the poor pooch, a decision that landed him behind bars and earned him an unusual criminal charge.
The dog was identified as Veda on the New Hampshire Canine Trooper’s Association Facebook page, where authorities detailed the bizarre steps that led up to one of their very best getting bitten by a deranged man.
Police were at a private residence in Boscawen investigating a reported shooting when they realized two people in the home were wanted on outstanding warrants, the Guardian reported. One of them was holed up in a trailer in the back of the property and refused to come outside, even after the home owner broke inside by busting through a glass door.
That’s when the dog got involved.
“Tr. Livingstone deployed K9 Veda into the trailer, who quickly located and apprehended the male suspect, who was trying to conceal himself under a pile of clothes,” the Facebook post reads. “The male began kicking and punching K9 Veda and on-scene troopers.”
“At one point during the struggle, the male put K9 Veda in a chokehold and bit her on the head,” the harrowing account continues. “After a significant struggle, troopers were able to place the male into custody.”
The culprit is now facing a slew of charges that includes resisting arrest, interference with a police dog and assault on a police officer. He will also face reckoning for his outstanding warrant.
On the plus side, Veda was cleared by a veterinarian and deemed fit for service; it appears the man’s rabies shots were up to date.
