DMX is headed back to jail following failed drug tests, as reported today by TMZ. Sources indicated that, following a drug test that came back positive for oxycodone, opiates, and cocaine, he was taken into custody in a Manhattan court early Tuesday. The judge, in handling the violation, ruled the “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” rapper a flight risk and ordered him to be held in custody until later sentencing.
Following a sentence of house arrest for tax evasion, the Ruff Ryder had been given permission to trade the home confinement for a rehab program. As DMX himself described it, “House arrest wasn’t working for me, so I made the decision to do something positive and better for myself.” Reports indicated that the treatment was going well, and he had even been given permission to travel for performances.
This travel, however, may have ultimately been what did him in. US attorneys, like the rest of us, watched the TMZ video of DMX preaching in a St. Louis airport bar last week. Witnesses reported that he was taking shots and buying rounds for fellow restaurant patrons; a clear violation of his parole requirements. The video was referenced, supposedly, in the decision to administer the drug tests which came back positive.
His attorney hopes to get DMX back into rehab, but with sentencing not due until March and the judge saying that the rapper told a “great big lie” when he agreed to the conditions of his bail, it’s seems unlikely that he’ll get what he really wants.
