David Mueller, the radio DJ that Taylor Swift accused of grabbing her bare bum during a concert meet and greet in 2013, has a new job as reported by The NY Daily News. The on-air personality that lost his counter-suit against the pop songstress has shown up in Mississippi on KIX 92.7 as part of the “Jackson and Jonbob” morning show. Mueller has taken on the nom-de-airwaves of Stonewall Jackson for the purposes of the new gig, but the station is already taking heat for the hiring.
Larry Fuss, CEO of KIX owner Delta Radio, met with Mueller in Minneapolis prior to the hiring to get his version of events and came out believing the broadcaster. “I met with him face to face before I offered him the job and talked to him about it. He’s either the world’s best liar, or he’s telling the truth.” Fuss added that, “most people who have talked to him face-to-face do believe his version of the story,” which seems to ring true at his new place of employment where he has reportedly won over his co-workers, including the women at the station.
Although some controversy and a smidge of free publicity were expected, the hiring has not gone without its share of backlash, especially in the Taylor Swift fan community. Perez Hilton posted that Swifties have been sharing the contact information for the station, station ownership, and even station sponsors in order to share their dissatisfaction with the fact that a second chance has been given to the man they describe as a sexual predator.
Fuss so far has dismissed the reaction, claiming that it’s coming from people outside the radio business, from outside the station’s community, and from “people who don’t have a clue, or don’t really have any knowledge of the facts.” Attributing the increase in negative Facebook comments about the station to “some Taylor Swift fan group somewhere” Fuss has been happy with the results of the on-air product so far and has taken to deleting the deleterious postings.
Will David “Stonewall Jackson” Mueller be able to shake off the stigma of the booty-grab, or will the events just be a blank space in his past one day? For now, his fate depends on the radio-listening community in Greenwood, Mississippi.
