“Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus” Trailer

Heath Ledger died while filming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (premieres on October 16, 2009) and, truly, I wasn’t expecting much from it.  The title is off-putting and since he couldn’t complete the movie, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law stepped in.  I expected it to turn into a disorganized mess but I hadn’t taken the professionalism of the crew and those actors into account.

The trailer for Parnassus has been released and it was not even close to what I was expecting.  I will admit that I didn’t look into it too much and I basically forgot all about it.  It just sounded like it was going to be some obscure, crappy indie flick (I love MANY independent films, incidentally) that was patched up after losing the lead actor but what has been delivered appears to be somewhat of a fantastical masterpiece.

Terry Gilliam wrote and directed the film which tells the story of a traveling theater company that gives its audience much more than they were expecting.  I don’t know a lot about it but it does appear to have a darker feel to it although it reminds me of Big Fish and even Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in some ways.  Anyway, check out the trailer for yourselves and tell me what you think!
