“Orphan” Opens Today

The newest “creepy kid” movie, Orphan, debuts today and I won’t be forking over any of my hard-earned cash to see it. I’m not upset by the fact that it makes adoption look like a nightmare (some adoption agencies are complaining) but it just looks like they are going with copy-cat plots and cheap scare tactics.

The plot revolves around a couple who, after recently losing their baby, adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be. The adoptive mother begins to get suspicious about her new daughter’s behavior but she is ignored since she had been suffering from nightmares after her own child’s death. Of course, the woman ends up being right about the kid but by the time people realize it, she’s already caused a lot of trouble.
