1 Way you can reduce a State Legislature’s budget by 20%…
is to reduce its membership by 20%.
That’s what has been proposed in Pennsylvania.
The PA House’s State Government Committee will hold a hearing next month to examine PA House Bill – 55, which seeks to reduce the number of Representatives and Senators currently serving the Commonwealth.
The author of the Bill, Representative, Mark Mustio (R-Moon Township, Allegheny County), introduced the Bill in January, 2007, and is has remained on the Committee’s “table” ever since.
The Bill proposes to reduce the number of state legislators by about 20%, reducing the number of State Representative to 161 (from 203) and Senators to 40 (from 50). Such reduction would not occur until 2011, after the 2010 census and (resulting) redistricting.
