10 Freeware Must Haves

Jake Jarvis compiled on his blog his top 10 Mac Freewares. I personally have most of the freewares he mentioned installed on my Powerbook save for the Intel specific apps. I must say that these software are definite must haves for any Mac user. There’s simply no reason not to have them since they’re free. Well, ok the only acceptable reason in my book is if you really don’t need them.

My personal favorites are the top 3 he mentioned. Adium, Quicksilver and VLC. I can’t live without my instant messaging. Quicksilver just makes life easier for me and VLC, what can I say it’s just a great tool for watching video.

To add to Jake’s list I highly recommend installing Firefox as soon as you get your Mac. Sure Safari is great but I like Firefox because it’s closer in consistency between platforms (Win and Mac). Plus there are a lot of extensions to Firefox.
