100 Helpful Tips for Great Managers

One of the smartest people I know is Lisa Haneberg. She’s the author of some of my favorite books (2 Weeks to a Breakthrough, Focus Like a Laser Beam, and 10 Steps to be a Successful Manager) and interviewer of some insightful management podcasts (check out one with David Zinger, and one with yours truly, Phil Gerbyshak, and one with former Slacker Manager Bren Connelly).
While I would encourage you to pick up ALL of Lisa’s books, if you’re looking for something right now that doesn’t cost a whole bunch, Lisa also put out a fantastic free ebook called 100 Helpful Tips for Great Managers.
She covers some incredibly helpful stuff in the ebook.
- 10 ways to start the day off with a bang
- 10 ways to create an enjoyable workplace
- 10 ways to reinforce excellent work
- 10 ways to generate new ideas
- 10 ways to get your point across
- 10 ways to handle complaints
- 10 ways to handle your mistakes
- 10 ways to get a stalled project back on track
- 10 ways to avoid energy crashes
- 10 ways to say “no”
- Bonus! 10 ways to get a promotion
It’s 36 pages long, is nicely laid out in the PDF format, and very helpful if you’re a new or experienced manager.

Sounds like a great list, but the website is down at the moment!
Phil:
Thanks for the link love and for sharing this resource with your readers. As of this moment (7am pacific), my web host’s server is down. So try back a little later to download the ebook. They tell me they are working on it. :-)
Lisa,
Your site looks very strange in Firefox 3 — the entire left side seems to be cut off, or maybe it’s still a problem with the hosting — maybe a php include gone wrong?
THANKS!!!! I know the server was down yesterday but I tried again today. I downloaded the other two e-books as well. Thanks again!
Phil,
Thanks for linking to this resource. I appreciate the way you provide resources I might not have seen otherwise.
Guy
Glad this was a helpful resource for everyone. Sorry there was a bit of trouble getting the files. I’m sure it was worth the wait!
