3 Reasons Switching to a Mac is a Waste of Time!

Rob May over at Business Pundit shared why he felt switching to Mac is a waste of time. He got such a strong response, he actually had to change the title of his post to Switching to Mac is Great. Scroll down the post to read the 50 comments (at this writing) on this article. It’s obvious from reading the comments most people reacted to Rob’s post title, not his content.
So what does this have to do with management, and what can we learn from it? I think there are many things we can learn from Macs and management, so I’ll share a few here.
3 Reasons Managers Can Be Great (and so can Macs)
- Be unique, not unusual – Macs are very unique. Not everyone gets them, but those who do LOVE them. Managers are the same way. There’s no “one way” to manage, and there’s no “one way” to use a Mac. And definitely, some managers are loved and those same managers can be despised.
- People can feel passionately about their core beliefs – As evidenced by the comments on Rob’s post, the passion people exude when they feel their Macs are being attacked is the same way some people feel when they get negative feedback, and there’s not much you can do about that other than try to be softer or change the headline of your message (as I think Rob smartly did).
- You can’t please everyone – This is one of those “no duhs” about management. Not everyone will be happy with what you say, right or wrong. Get over it. If you wanted to always be right, you’d spend the day alone, and even that’s no guarantee of pleasing everyone.
What about you? How do you think management is like a Mac? Do you think Rob’s right, that management, er Macs, are a waste of time?
