3 Tips On Balancing Acts For Business Women

If you are in business, self-employed or the corporate world, you know all too well how much of a challenge it is to balance both work and home life. Something always goes wrong or gives in.
My challenge is juggling multiple projects at once with juggling multiple kids at the same time. I try to keep one calendar and record everything, including sporting events and shopping lists on it. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s not. But, I’ve found a few things that work:
1. That calendar that I mentioned. While I’m very fond of my PDA, a paper calendar is what this girl uses to stay organized. I use the two page per day by the Franklin Covey folks. I use it as a diary to record any conversations with vendors or clients. I write down doctors and dentist’s appointments for me and the family and also to jot down any significant daily purchases, whether business related or personal.
2. This is not new but I’m finding that it’s working wonders for me since I started implementing it. JUST SAY NO. I’m admittedly the school volunteer extraordinnaire, but find that it so terribly interferes at times with my making a living gig. I have to say no sometimes so that I can meet those project deadlines.
3. Again, not a new one but does work. Set particular work hours and work during them. Whether your schedule is flexible or not, there should be some work style or flow to your schedule. All willy-nilly turns quickly into no work at all. Setting certain hours keep you focused and those around you on their toes. Well, a little anyway.
