365 Days of Gaming

“Ecci Warriors 2? Nnnnno, that’s coming in March.”
John Thomas Perkowski from Kombo has penned an interesting editorial about the screwy nature of game release in America. For years, developers have been pushing their titles for October and November releases, just in time for the holiday season. This means ten lean months of games that go mostly unnoticed by burned out gamers, a pattern that 2008 will hopefully be breaking.

The year will be starting off with two big releases in these rainshadow months: Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii and Metal Gear Solid 4 for the Playstation 3, both of which wouldn’t go ignored if they were released on the day after Armageddon.

What’s funny is that games are released year-round in Japan, Christmas or not. The Japanese version of Christmas has a reputation for being extremely commercial and secular, but evidently America’s got them beat despite religious bludgeoning over Jesus being “the reason for the season.” Sorry, Jesus. But you can be my co-pilot (in MGS4) if you like.
