Texas Coach Rick Barnes to Receive Wooden Award

Texas coach Rick Barnes has been named the winner the John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award.

Barnes, a head coach for 21 seasons with Clemson, Providence, George Mason and Texas, has a 449-227 record. He has been at Texas for the past 10 years with a 245-92 record leading the Longhorns to the NCAA tournament each year. He has 13 appearances overall.

Barnes will receive the award at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in April, when the 2009 Wooden Awards are presented to college basketball’s top male and female players of the year.

Barnes joins such previous winners as Tennessee’s Pat Summitt, Purdue’s Gene Keady, Roy Williams of Kansas, Lute Olson of Arizona and Dean Smith of North Carolina.

My question is how excited will he be in April if his team falls short of an NCAA championship?
