Gatti’s got it

Last night I had the chance to watch the Arturo Gatti vs. Thomas Damgaard fight which took place in Atlantic City last Saturday (1/28) night. Unfortunately I was not able to see it on the night it aired because of some other commitments. But allow me to give my 2 cents on what I thought was actually a good fight.

Thomas Damgaard (37-0, 27 KOs) who hails from Morkov, Denmark performed quite well. He was the one who basically hunted Gatti during most of the fight. He got off lots of punches and showed that style of European boxing that we see in many of the boxers from Europe (at least in my eyes) as of lately.

But you have Arturo Gatti (39-7, 30 KOs) hailing from Jersey City by way of Montreal, Canada who is not to be slept on. Gatti showed great ringmanship during the fight. His puch stats were not as high as Damgaard’s (at least not until the later rounds) but his power punches did ultimately change the tide in the fight. I was even impressed to see Gatti fighting with a damaged right hand (which has been a problem for him for quite a while now) and a rib injury. That to me is a mark of a true fighter or warrior/gladiator if that is to be used as a description.

The way he popped off the straight right hand punch at will was very impressive (even with it being injured). And the way Damgaard manage to make it to the 11th round after many of those shots were equally impressive. Hopefully we will see a rematch since Gatti has thrown away the thought of retirement for now.

Gatti’s truly got it!!!
