I received 52 responses to the 6 word management request last week. You could take these and have a different management story every week for the next year. Read the statements below and then I will announce the winner of the coolest management story as judged by 3 teenagers who are just beginning to be managed by different people at various jobs.
Here they are:
- Seek understanding, give support, find results
- Look, listen, learn. Lift, laugh, lead.
- Learned to GTD, teaching others how.
- They tried harder but kept failing.”
- Learned management wisdom, tried something else.
- Eventually she understood what really mattered.”
- Empower the team, hold them accountable.
- Facilitate the network, let the net work.
- Always learning and teaching, join me
- I requested, they failed, I fired.
- Challenge your people; pay them well.
- I trust you, make it happen
- Living to shape minds and destinies!
- He tried, sometimes failed, always learnt.
- Worked hard, failed alot, succeeded some.
- Chaos ensuing, unaccountability ruling, we’re compelling.
- I am interested in your work.
- Worked hard, failed alot, succeeded some.
- I trust you, make it happen
- First, take care of your people.
- Living to shape minds and destinies!
- They tried harder but kept failing.
- ‘He tried, sometimes failed, always learnt.’
- Empower the team, hold them accountable.
- Eventually she understood what really mattered.
- Most importantly, learn to ask questions.
- Herding Cats, Taming Lions. Why Not?
- Your worth is in their eyes.”
- Demand high standards; measure with grace
- I ask questions, you find solutions.
- To learn more sooner, fail faster.
- Outward transformation begins with internal change.
- Let’s squash the competition like bugs!
- My success begins with your success.
- Share vision. Don’t be an obstacle.
- You will rise above and conquer!
- Do Plan. Study. Act. Celebrate. Repeat.
- Lead by staying out of the way.
- One of many; catalysts don’t boast
- Life is a journey…so enjoy.
- Dare to dream…and dream BIG!
- Watch, Do, Teach; Learn, Live, Give.
- Orders are easy, Examples are harder
- Measure twice, cut once.
- Honeydew this, Honeydew that, I’ll watch.
- Open hands hold more than fists
- Who, What, Why, where, When, How.
- My work is their work, succeeding.
- Succeed by failing different every time
- You’ll be MY boss, one day
- Find the “why”, then act. Repeat.
- Once knew all. Now know better.
And the teenagers choose two winners. It was a Toonie after all so two winners make sense to me.
“JB” won with “I trust you, make it happen” and Cheryl Tardiff won for life/work management with, “Honeydew this, Honeydew that, I’ll watch.”
JB and Cheryl email me at dzinger@shaw.ca so I can get your address and send those lovely toonies. I loved a lot of them and I think many of you now have a pithy was to state your story.
Thanks to everyone for entering
David Zinger
