Reduce Your Phone Bill

business.jpgOkay, this isn’t about writing, but I want to share it anyway. I still use a landline phone – I don’t even have a cell phone, and I haven’t made the move yet to Skype, but that’s another story. My phone provider is also my DSL provider and my long distance provider, mostly because it’s way simpler.

Over the last almost four years, I’ve called my phone company three or four times a year and simply asked if there’s any way they can reduce my bill – not can I reduce it, but is there some plan or scheme they’ve got that will lower my total bill. And you know what, ever single time the answer has been yes. I think it’s some combination of my own gradually changing call patterns and the competition that forces phone companies to create new plans.

Figuring out the plans is totally beyond me. Every time I even start to try to figure out how much I spend in local long distance, state-wide long distance, out-of-state long distance and even out-of-country long distance my eyes glaze over, my stomach clenches and I give up in a fit. But when I call the phone company they always take time to look at my most recent bills and make a suggestion or two.

Most recently, largely because of a teleclass, my bill had soared to $150 a month – I called and guess what, it’s now less than $50 a month! That’s the biggest decrease I’ve seen, but even a savings of $20 or $30 a month makes calling and asking more than worthwhile.

So call and ask already!

Write well and often,

Anne Wayman

That’s good news Anne. Just yesterday I had the cable company in to drop my Bell service for their service. By combining cable, internet, and phone on one bill we are saving about $50 per month. I’ll take the $600 savings any time!
