This is part of the One Year Later recruiting series, where we’re looking at the top recruits from 2008, now that they have a year of college time under their belts. You can see the full list here.
Baker Steinkuhler, an offensive tackle out of Lincoln, Nebraska, is another prospect that verbally committed very early. Of course, nothing is official until signing day (or after), but Steinkuhler stuck to his word and – surprise, surprise – became a cornhusker at Nebraska. His older brother, Ty, is a defensive lineman for Nebraska. Football’s in their blood – their father is Lombardi Award winner Dean Steinkuhler.
So how’d he do this year? That’s easy. He didn’t “do” – he redshirted, just like his older brother did. Some critics think that he should have played this year, but there were some reports that he struggled with adjusting to college life and practice in general, and even older bro Ty thinks the redshirt season was for the best.
I think he’ll definitely be a positive force in the future, though. Lineman rarely shine, so this might not be a name you know unless you’re a Husker fan specifically, but keep your eyes and ears open. He’s got the size, speed, and heart to be in the NFL someday.
