8 Random Things about Me – Blog Meme/Chain Letter

July 15, 2007 by Eric Eggertson

I’m never sure about these blog memes that flow around the Internet like a new version of the old-fashioned chain letter.

The difference, I guess, is that no one is threatening me with bad karma if I don’t pass it on, unlike the chain letters people used to send.

So here’s my contribution, after I was tagged by Des Walsh of Business and Blogging.

8 random things about me

  1. I take 1,000 micrograms of vitamin B12 every day because my body can’t absorb it from food, or from a normal multivitamin (I don’t generate enough stomach acid).
  2. The Hardy Boys almost killed me. When I was in grade 4 I was hooked on Hardy Boys books. I started using the detachable lamp from my mom’s sewing machine to help me read secretly after bedtime. One night, she smelled smoke, and got me out of bed, where I had fallen asleep with the lamp under the covers. The lamp was melting my covers and was getting ready to generate enough smoke to kill me, and eventually enough flame to start a house fire. I stopped at Hardy Boys #154.
  3. I compulsively find typos in text and logical errors in movies. People don’t like to show me a brochure after it’s been published, because I often find typos in them. The logic thing is equally annoying to anyone who watches a movie with me.
  4. My grandfather emigrated to Canada alone when he was 14, and at one time owned most of what is now Fort Garry, in Winnipeg. He was a special Canadian representative to Iceland during World War II, before his death.
  5. I have three nipples, and can perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony by vibrating my nasal hairs. (This item is not actually true. I do that sometimes.)
  6. I.A.N. logoI am one of the founding members of the International Association of Nobodies.
  7. I once had a season-long shut out when I played goalie in house league soccer. I missed part of one game because I was playing hockey, so they put me in at forward. I scored three goals, then went back to playing goalie for the rest of the season. Best. Season. Ever…
  8. I worked as a photographer for the North Shore News for three years. When I was assigned to fill in and take photos for the Sunshine Girl feature, I did a really lame job, and they never asked me to do it again.

I’m going to leave the tagging to others. If everyone who gets tagged tags eight more people, the blogosphere will be entirely consumed with this meme within days. I can’t be held responsible for that sort of catastrophe. Next thing you know, all the pipes on the Internets will be filled, and it will be my fault!

You mightn’t have liked it, but I’m so glad I included you – after reading a whole bunch of very worthy posts elsewhere, reading this has made my day. And keep up the good fight on those typo’s :)

  2. vitagod says:

Actually nobody absorbs B12 well through food. You have to get injections, or use the patch!

  3. Hsien Lei says:

Me too on the lamp under covers fiasco. I think my bedside lamp was bugging my sister once so I put a towel on top of it to shade it a bit. Next thing I knew the towel was smoking and there was a burnt spot! eek

  4. Des: I hold no grudge. It was good to have an excuse to talk about myself. I think I get a bit too news-oriented on this blog. It’s good to let down my (nasal) hair from time to time.

Vitagod: I used to get the injections, but my blood tests show that I’m getting enough B12 from my 1,000 mcg. daily pills.

Hsien: Glad you weren’t able to kill yourself!
