82% of Americans want health care change
According to a survey by the Commonwealth Fund entitled Public Views on U.S. Health Care System Organization, the vast majority of Americans want health care reform in the United States. The project surveyed 1,004 American adults to assess their views on how the current U.S. system is organized.
The study’s leader stated that much of the current dissatisfaction with the system has come from people’s perception that the U.S. system is inefficient and disorganized. Also, high cost of care and affordability were cited as important factors missing from our current system, as was continuity of care, measured by getting to see the same doctor on a regular basis. The majority of respondents also thought that information sharing between doctors and nurses was not good, and 90% wanted better access to their medical records. (Greater implementation of electronic medical records come to mind as a solution for several of these issues!)
90% of survey respondents said that candidates for the 2008 presidential election should propose health care reform plans.
Considering that Americans spend more than any other country on health care, both per capita (per person) and as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP), one would think we might get a little more bang for our buck. Do you agree with the majority of Americans who want health care change?
