A Brief History of the World Cup of Golf

The World Cup of Golf is golf’s oldest global team competition and is often called the Olympics of the sport. It was first held in 1953. Then later in the year 2000, the event became part of the World Golf Championships.

The winners of the World Cup include some of the greatest names in the history of golf:

Sam Snead
Ben Hogan
Arnold Palmer
Jack Nicklaus
Gary Player
Severiano Ballesteros
Bernhard Langer
Tiger Woods
Ernie Els

In total, there have been 30 major championship winners have taken home the World Cup. The US has the greatest number of wins, 22. South Africa has 5 wins. Both Spain and Australia have 4 wins.
