(FranchisePick.Com Franchise Blog) Monsters & Critics reports the rather bizarre genesis of the Burger King product placement in the movie Iron Man.
One might think this is a bogus story to justify a paid product placement, except for the fact that Downey describes the Burger King burger as so “disgusting” it inspired him to turn his life around.
In 2003, Robert Downey Jr. was cruising down the PCH with a ton of “f*cking dope” in his car when he suddenly decided to stop at Burger King for a meal.
He said eating a Whopper changed his life.
He said, “I have to thank Burger King. It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen.”
…Allegedly the burger was so gross it snapped him out of whatever drug funk he was in, and he tossed all his dope into the ocean.
Showbiz Spy claims that the Burger King hamburger scene in the film Iron Man, when Downey’s character asks for a BK meal once he is rescued, is tribute to the patty melt flashback.
I guess BK will take whatever exposure they can get… Tough year all around for the Burger King PR Department.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS THIS BURGER KING’S WAY OF COMBATTING DRUG ABUSE?
