All hopes of an American Alpine Skiing Gold was pinned on the controversial Bode Miller, but it was the 21 year old Ted Ligety from Park City, Utah who snatched the Gold at the Combined event.

Bode was disqualified earlier today for ’straddling a gate’ on his first slalom run, i.e. running over the gate.

Some thought Ligety’s victory was a stroke of good luck because the Combined leader, Benjamin Raich of Austria, skied off course in his final slalom run. Ligety later remaked that, “I would prefer to win standing up to him.”
