While the recent straight to DVD/Blu-Ray release of Resident Evil: Degeneration may not have been for everyone, it is an enjoyable flick that long-time fans of the series will enjoy. But aside from the film itself, the disc contains a bevy of additional content, some of which will be of great interest to hardcore Resident Evil fans.
To bring viewers up to date, the Blu-Ray features brief character descriptions. So if you want to catch up on the likes of Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, or even lesser known characters like Senator Ron Davis, this is the place to go. The feature also includes video montages and/or photo galleries of each individual. Much more interesting, however, is Generation of Degeneration feature. This short documentary about the films creation gives a lot of insight into the creative process of director Makoto Kamiya, as well as some interesting tidbits about the use of motion capture in the film. While it’s a tad short at only 30 minutes, it’s definitely still worth a watch.
The Blu-Ray also features a surprisingly funny bloopers section, in which new lines are played over top of in-film footage. Of course, this means that the voice acting doesn’t exactly match the characters mouth movement, but the results are still humorous. My pick? The super mutant G giving a Presidential press conference. Less interesting is a strange interview with the actor who played Leon, which attempts to be funny but fails miserably.
There are a few other interesting features, including a version of the film with plenty of pop-up facts and trivia, as well as a pair of gorgeous trailers for Resident Evil 5. Overall the special features are pretty hit and miss, and like the film itself, most will be of little interest to those who aren’t already big RE fans to begin with.
