A Plague Upon You

I’m not even a World of Warcraft player, though I’ve posted several times on it already. It just seems to be the game that has all of the wacky and wonderful stuff going on in it at the moment. In a rather amusing twist, a World of Warcraft patch released by the developing company Blizzard Entertainment has unleashed a plague to end all plagues upon unsuspecting gamers everywhere.
The Zul’Gurub patch is a raid instance that takes place in the northeastern portion of Stranglethorn Vale. Hidden in the heart of the Gurubashi ruins is Hakkar the Soulflayer (don’t you just love WoW names?), dread blood god, holding court with his five champions. Hakkar has a few tricks up his sleeve, like the “Corrupted Blood” debuff that deals about 300 points damage to a player and can spread to his or her nearby allies.
The truly bizarre thing is that this “corrupted blood” disease has made it’s way out of the instance and now exists in general gameplay. Players returning from the ruins and entering towns have been infecting passers-by and NPCs alike and the illness is spreading like wild fire across the WoW landscape. Attempts to corral and quarantine the players that carry it have failed and Blizzard seems to be stuck scratching its head. Entire servers are in shambles and players with characters of a level below fifty are too terrified to log in.
Naturally out of all this there has been a great deal of immaturity, with some “clever” soul has linked this epidemic to the real life AIDs situation, prompting a lot of offensive mudslinging regarding a character’s sexual orientation and disease free status. Hopefully Blizzard will step up to the plate and get this cleaned up, or it may face unpleasant comparisons to FEMA.

This actually happened to me… it was very entertaining, let me tell ya.
What happened exactly Ambine? Did you implode? Explode? Just plain fall over? I’m sorry to make light of the situation, I bet it was pretty traumatizing to lose your character, but this is so fascinating!
Heheh, well, I landed in Ironforge after flying from another town. The second I landed, I was dead… seeing as I’m only a level 27 mage, I only have 500 hp… and well, let’s just say that I had no idea what the heck was going on. And there were millions of bodies every where. Just like a real battle field. I escaped after dying just one time, but only barely.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
That’s odd…..I play every night, and I had never even HEARD of this til I just saw your post. Now I’m scared :-$
Be afraid, Kristi, be very afraid. ;)
oh, i am. Because there’s nothing scarier in life than worrying about one’s WoW character’s health ;)
Girls I can’t believe this. Did it really happen?
*is a plated 60 paladin* stupid disease never hurt me *roars* puny damage.
Totally happened Jazy! There was chaos and corpses littered all over the WoW landscape. Terribly funny.
