A Question to the masses…

So… I picked up The Longest Journey from a friend who just happened to have a copy and I was super happy. Happy, at least, until I tried to play the game. And there was this horrible skipping noise that grated on my nerves like cheese on a… um… grater.

I’m not good with analogies. As if you couldn’t tell.

Anyways. Does any one know how to get around this problem? Is there some super duper cool program I can download that will help me run such games as The Longest Journey and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure for PC?

Okay… I don’t really have Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure for PC. But I would if there was one! They’re totally gnarly!

I wanted to do The Longest Journey for my Tuesday Treasure Trove, but I couldn’t get it to work right. It’s evil.

Any requests on what I should play? Maybe Gabriel Knight 1? Mmmm… that sounds fun. I better find the cd!

    Hi Amber,

I had the same problems when I first played TLJ on Windows 95. I don’t know what OS you are using, but it should be at least Windows 98.
If you are using XP, you can try to start the game in compatibility mode. Right click on the desktop icon of the game and select “Propeties”. On the third tab you can enable the compatibility mode and set it to Windows 98. This also helped me with a bug in the game where it normally crashes on XP.

    Hey André,

I’ll definitely give that a try. Thanks for the info. :D

And do visit the TLJ website in search of a patch… I think there is one that fixes most problems.

Oh, and Gabriel 1 is an excellent choice, even though Gabriel 3 is a better one.

I looked for a patch and there didn’t seem to be one matching my problem. Dang it! I’ll download them and install them anyways.

I don’t remember playing GK3 for some reason, but I have it, so I must have played it. I’ll get to it in due time, my dear Gnome.

Not a DOS game. :( I wish, because DosBox makes everything work juuuuust fine.

    Any luck yet?

  8. Amber says:

    Nope… not yet. :(

  9. gnome says:

Hmmm… Wish I could help, but the TLJ runs fine on my Xp, without ever using a patch…
