A-Rod: Just Kidding About Drug Tests

When we think “witty” and “jokester,” approximately 528 people come to mind before Alex Rodriguez. But given the listen-to-all-those-crickets response to his attempt at humor today, he’s about to slip down a few notches.
WTF?
The New York Yankees third baseman told reporters he got tested for drugs “9-to-10 times” in 2007. Eyebrows across the sports blogosphere raised because that is, apparently, an unusually high number. Hours later, A-Rod did his best impression of a unicyclist—you know, he did some backpedaling:
“My quote from earlier today was taken literally. I was not tested nine or 10 times last year. I was just using exaggeration to make a point . . . My intent was simply to shed light on the fact that the current program being implemented is working, and a reason for that is through frequent testing. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.”
Oh, and we should add the quotable quote came via a spokesman. (Imagine that—the Yankee suits didn’t want A-Rod to get back in front of the microphone so soon. My, my, what a surprise.)
Way to make an impression during your first spring training chat with the press, A-Rod. Keep up the good work so we have plenty of blog foddah this season.

I think A-Rod needs to learn how to “exaggerate” better!
You know, Jason, the guy really does need a lesson in tongue-in-cheek exaggeration. If he would have said, “I was tested three or four hundred times,” then we’d all be in on the joke.
I don’t think we’ll see him hosting the Oscars or filling in for Leno any time soon!
