About Freelance Writing Blog Carnival – June 14, 2006

Welcome to the very first editon of About Freelance Writing Blog Carnival… do you supose I know what I’m doing? No way, but let’s see what happens.

1. First is Lori Widmer who blogs Words On The Page and she’s talking about Paying (or Not) For Professional Work – words to consider and maybe even live by for freelance writers.
2. Next, welome Joe Kissell presents Style Guides on his Interesting Thing of the Day blog which covers lots more than just writing. As he says, “The rules of English grammar, punctuation, and usage are not as clear and inflexible as you might think. Style guides help writers to choose the best usages for particular audiences.”
3. Christine Kane wondered if her post, Do it First. And Then Decide fits here since she’s a singer rather than a writer… I think it does.
4. Matthew C. Keegan, a regular in our forum rants nicely about Payment Pending Acceptance. I know many magazine publishers won’t agree, but I certainly do!
5. Shang Lee natters on about the emotional differences between writing by hand and typing in Writing vs Typing. I’ve included this one because it gives me the opportunity to say that typing is a left/right integrating activity – so there.
6. Finally, Kivi Leroux Miller talks about Encouraging Word of Mouth Referrals at Freelance Writing for Nonprofits, saying, “Thanks for starting this carnival! I thought about doing it myself, but I am starting another one for consultants who work in the nonprofit sector. Kivi” To which I say “go for it” and keep us posted.

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty impressed with this first go ’round… stuff here for us to learn, muse on, and perhaps even inspire. (Yes, in theory this is to be posted at 3 p.m. my time, but as a freelance writer my day has changed so it’s now.)
