Access Pocket PC (PPC-6700) From Laptop

One of the things that I cannot believe doesn’t exist yet, or at least I haven’t found it, is the ability to completely control my PPC-6700 (or any smart phone for that matter) from my laptop’s keyboard and mouse.
If I’m docked in my USB cradle and the cradle is attached to my laptop, why in the world can’t I pop open an application window that mirrors that “desktop” of my phone and work with the phone in that mode?
Here’s a couple of the things that I’d think I should be able to do without any problems:
- Send a text message via my phone. I know I can do it through Outlook Connector, but it’s not the same and the recipient can’t just “Reply” to my text and get it back to me.
- Dial the phone. If I’ve got headphones with a mic plugged in, it would be great to be able to use my cell phone and make a phone call to someone through my computer. I’d think the Mobile OS would just need to pump the audio through the USB to the audio headphone and mic outputs of the laptop.
- Install software. Why can’t I completely work through the install process through my laptop keyboard and mouse?
Really the list could go on, but I should be able to completely control my phone through my laptop or desktop, whatever computer it’s plugged into. It doesn’t seem like it should be that hard.
The stretch would be to achieve the vice-versa task of completely controlling my laptop through my phone.

There is an answer for this. It used to be part of the PowerToys for Pocket PC. I think they may have taken the “remote” out, but I have it somewhere. Let me look for it and I’ll send it to you if you’d like.

The “ActiveSync Remote Display” is what I have used, and it sounds exactly like what you want.
Yep, that’s it. When I developed for the PocketPC I used it often. I’m not sure if the version available is compatible with the newerOS. It’s worth a try. Mine works great on mine and its PC2003 version. Ping me anytime if you have any problems getting it working.
You can control your PC from your Mogul with Remote Desktop Manager.
While not the same, the RedFly turns your Windows Mobile phone into a mini-PC. Essentially it is a dumb terminal: a keyboard, screen, USB hub and VGA-out port for your phone. It rocks!

But will that work with the older PPC-6700?
The 6700 is not one of the devices that the guys at Celio have tested, but it probably will. The Mogul is fully supported.
