AdSense for Video!

Google AdSense powers the Long Tail of the Web’s text content, and now it can power the Long Tail of the Web’s video content. Adopting YouTube’s InVideo ad format, AdSense for Video is now open for beta applications. Before you sign up to become the next Chad Hurley, check if you meet the beta signup requirements:

* Use Flash player 7.0 or above
* Viewership primarily based in the United States, English language
* At least one million monthly video views

If the historical success of AdSense is any indication, Google just got another license to print money. Adsense revenue hit $1.45 billion in the third quarter of 2007. That’s over a quarter of all the world’s online ad spending. Assuming AdSense for Video can capture the same share of all the world’s video ad spending, we’re talking about nearly $140 million in additional revenue this year. With video ad spend growing 55.5% annually, that additional revenue will only get bigger.

Google’s growing moolah aside, AdSense revenue shares funded the explosion of nonvideo social media. Expect AdSense for Video to have a similar effect on video social media. The industry is about to get a whole lot bigger.
