According to analyses done by Nielsen Monitor Plus and Nielsen Product Placement, there are some interesting advertising and product placement trends going on this year.
First, let’s take a look at the Top 10 Advertisers between January and September 2007 in the table below.
Next, let’s examine the Top 10 Brands Appearing within a TV Show in the United States between January 1 and October 31, 2007 in the table below.
Finally, let’s take a look at the Top 10 TV Shows in the United States Using Product Placement from January 1 through October 31, 2007 in the table below.
One thing is certain from these results, reality television is a product placement manager’s dream come true. I also think it’s interesting that three of the top 10 advertisers are car companies (not surprising) and two are telecommunications companies. In terms of brands appearing in television shows, I think some of those product placements are not working very well (or perhaps I’m not watching the right reality shows – for example, I admit I did not see Pussycat Dolls Present).
Did any of these results surprise you or stand out as particularly interesting?

I am curious to see if the Chicago Bears brand was an accident or carefully planned marketing campaign. Interesting post…
James, I thought the Chicago Bears presence on the top 10 list was strange, too.
