Alaskan Senator Indicted On Corruption Charges
Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was indicted yesterday on seven charges of making false statements about more than $250,000 an Alaskan business spent renovating his Anchorage home.
A Washington D.C. federal grand jury indicted Stevens for lying on his financial disclosure forms. Stevens is the first sitting U.S. senator to face criminal charges in 15 years. The charges stem from an Alaskan political corruption investigation that began in 2004. That investigation has already resulted in seven convictions. The company that paid for Stevens’ renovations, Veco, is now defunct.
