Sounds like someone’s looking for free advertising, a la the “advertorial”. Product endorsements from college kids on their web sites/blogs. Hmmm… no porn, gambling, politicos, smokes… That still leaves a whole lotta weird possibilities. This one makes me feel like I’m in an episode of “CSI” ;)
According to their website, http://officialedulinks.com, “Search Engines place more weight on .edu and .gov links. The reason for this is they are extremely hard to get and carry a greater degree of trust. The sites that receive links from them are assumed by the search engines to be legitimate and relevant. The search engines feel that any site which is back linked from an edu website must have distinguished themselves in some special way.
Real edu links provide the quickest and most effective way to get a high page ranking. Pages that are linked from elite important pages are themselves considered to be important. Take the next step and fill out the form. Do not be left behind.”
They charge $125 per month for one link from an .edu site to your site (see http://officialedulinks.com/edu-pricing.htm) NOT IDENTIFIED AS PAID OR SPONSORED.
My advice? If you have an .edu site and don’t mind sponsored posts/text link ads, advertise the service on your site and make your own money without the middle man. But you should identify the post as sponsored. It’s more ethical. And if you’re an .edu site, you probably ARE concerned with ethics.
Just wanted to let you know that your RSS feed isn’t working. I’ve tried to add it to my feedreader via Feedburner and Netvibes. Both have given me messages that your RSS feed can’t be found or isn’t working. And please let me know when it’s fixed. I LOVE this blog.
