Alyssa Milano Joins Ghostbusters Video Game

A few months ago, I wrote a post about Ghostbusters: The Video Game. I’m thrilled about it becauseI really love the movies and I think that it’s great that it will feature the voices of most of the original cast.  Unfortunately, Rick Moranis (Louis) and Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett) declined to reprise their roles.

I was surprised, therefore, to learn the other day that Sigourney had a last-minute change of mind (after learning that Bill Murray was on board) and tried to be added to the game but was told she was too late.  Atari had replaced the female lead with a new character, Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn, which will be portrayed by Alyssa Milano (Who’s The Boss, Charmed).  “Obviously, fans of the movie are going to miss Sigourney Weaver,” said Milano. “I have so much respect for that character in the movie that I hope I do the position that she is in justice. I was just flattered to be asked to be part of ‘Ghostbusters‘.”

I’m not sure how I feel about this but there’s nothing I can do about it.  The dynamics and relationship between Murray’s character, Peter Venkman, and Dana Barrett was so important in the films but I guess they are going to find a way around it.  Maybe Slimer got her?

The game, which is currently scheduled for a June 16, 2009 release, was conceptualized by Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz) and Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler), and will take place two years after the end of the second movie.   It should be available on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii and PC.

If you can’t wait to check out the action, watch the trailer:

I’m looking forward to this game but really trying not to get my hopes up. Was a big fan of ghostbusters as a kid tho, and if modern day game systems can put a convincing proton accelerator in my hands in an open-ish environment, then that’s all I really require of the game ;)

Amen to that, Lee. It should be a lot of fun. I’m hoping that the Wii version is cool since the packs could be controlled with the Wiimote but, if not, I’ll just play it on Xbox :)
