America’s Most Miserable Cities

Forbes has released its list of the 10 most miserable cities in America. Detroit, Michigan takes the top spot as the most miserable city in the United States. I’m glad I’m not on the tourism committee for Detroit. How about that for a brand message to try to lure tourists or new residents or businesses? “Come to Detroit, and you can be miserable, too.”
It’s important to understand how Forbes calculated its list of America’s most miserable cities. The Forbes Misery Score comes from several criteria such as violent crime rates, unemployment rates, personal tax rates, commute times, weather and toxic waste. Paints an ugly picture, doesn’t it?
So here you go. Here are the top 10 most miserable cities according to the Forbes Misery Score:
-
Detroit, Michigan
-
Stockton, California
-
Flint, Michigan
-
New York, New York
-
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
-
Chicago, Illinois
-
Los Angeles, California
-
Modesto, California
-
Charlotte, North Carolina
-
Providence, Rhode Island
What do you think of this list?

Ewk, spam. Doncha just hate that?
Anyway, I died laughing…come to detroit and you can be miserable, too…hahaha
Yuck! I deleted that spam. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Why isn’t Liberty City on this list?
Kidding, kidding (it’s a Grand Theft Auto III joke I made up)
:P
Anyway I’m not surprised that Detroit is on the top of the list, since it’s so fragmented by parking lots and stuff.
Less connectivity equals more isolation.
They have a lot of poor areas in that city too don’t they?
Mark, thanks for bringing some levity to a “miserable” post.
