An Almost Wordless Thursday

It’s wordless Thursday around here because this week I’ve finished two major projects and my mind is fried.

I’ll probably go to the gym later today, and I’ll probably make it to the library, but that’s about it. Crashing with a dumb novel, that’s me today.

You’d think I wouldn’t be amazed any more at how much a long stint of good writing takes out of me mentally. But it does.

And I’m often surprised.

How do you recharge your mental batteries?

I go for a swim, spend some time with my dogs, or go out for a meal somewhere I haven’t tried yet. Generally all of these things recharge my batteries because I find them such a refreshing change of pace. I imagine it’s different for everyone, depending on what you really enjoy doing.

And of course, a nice long sleep in does wonders for me once in awhile.

  2. I think you said it already — just walk away. When your brain is fried, there is nothing really you can do. The muse is tired; just let her sleep!

She did and I feel much closer to human this morning. Most of the work today is talking with clients which is a good thing I think… two days off of writing never hurts me.

That was me yesterday, Anne. Only the mental energy went to trying to prove to clients that the impossible wasn’t possible just because they want it to be. It pains me to be truthful to someone who then refuses to hear what I’m saying.

My therapy was to go to the garden and dig up weeds like a fiend. Nothing grounds a person and melts away the stress like getting in touch with the earth again.

You did better than I did… I just collapsed with a mystery novel… hardly moved!
