Angle Earns Title Shot; Cage Becomes Champ
The preshow for Final Resolution opened with the Lance Hoyt/Chase Stevens match. Hoyt got the win just 2 minutes in with a flapjack. After the match A.J. Pierzyski, a major league baseball player, and Dale Torborg, a former wrestler turned baseball trainers, got into a confrontation with Hoyt after heckling him throughout the match.
In the last man standing match between Rhino and A.J. styles, Rhino won after Styles failed to answer during the 10 count after Rhino landed two gores. Chris Sabin beat Jerry Lynn and Christopher Daniels to win the TNA X Division Championship. Sabin pinned Lynn with a roll-up after Lynn hit Christopher Daniels with a piledriver.
The PCS finals were a draw after the 10 minute opening round and went to a 5 minute extra period. Alex Shelley pinned Austin Starr with a roll-up 20 seconds into the extra frame.
Next on the docket was the James Storm and Petey Williams bout. Storm pinned Williams while holding the ropes leading former associate Gail Kim to side with Petey Williams. Storm proceeded to attack his former partner going so far as to threaten attacking him yet again with a beer bottle. Kim saved Williams with a low blow to storm making him stop his attack. Jacqueline returned to TNA by siding with Storm and attacking Kim.
In the match for the NWA Tag Team Championship LAX came out on top after Team 3D was disqualified. Team 3D was disqualified when Brother Runt interfered with the match, climbed to the top rope, and jumped onto Homicide of LAX. Expect both this rivalry and the Williams/Storm ones to go until at least the next PPV.
Now to the big two matches of the night. First up was the Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe 30 Minute Iron Man Match. Great match type for all the hype with a guaranteed length of time. Joe led off the match by Submitting Angle with a Coquina Clutch 13 minutes into the match. Just 3 minutes later Angle for Joe to tap out with an ankle lock. 3 minutes later Angle went up 2-1 when Joe submitted again to another ankle lock.
Joe tied it up a few minutes later when he pinned Angle after the muscle buster. With 5 minutes left in the match Angle went up 3-2 when he got a cradle pin. Time expired and Angle won the match 3-2. Because of the win Angle gets an NWA World Heavyweight Title shot at Against All Odds.
Last match of the night was the three way title tilt between current champ Abyss, Christian Cage and Sting. Cage’s enforcer, Tomko, was locked in a cage at ringside to prevent interference. Just over 5 minutes into the match Sting pinned Abyss after landing the Scorpion Death Drop. Cage then landed the Frog Splash on Sting and got the three count to become the new NEW World Heavyweight Champion. The results of this match set up a likely Angle/Cage main event for Against All Odds in a few weeks.
