Another great blog

I know I said I wasn’t going to post until Monday, but what the heck…it’s kinda slow around the house today.

I subscribe to so many blogs, I think I’ll start highlighting some of them once in a while.  This time I wanted to point to Wirearchy.  I was browsing some older postings and this one reminded me of how much I like Jon’s point of view (even though I kinda got the smackdown in this post).

I think what I like the most is that Jon’s writing shows such a wholistic perspective on human resources, organizational development and technology.  I love that, and learn a lot.  I think that’s what makes a particular weblog, like Wirearchy, a favorite read for me–when I regularly take away new ideas.

Anyway, have a look and subscribe for a while.  I’m sure you’ll dig it too.

Thanks for the mention. I appreciate it.

Oh, and I went back and read the “smack down” you opointed to. Not really a smackdown, mor elike pointing my tongue out and asking a question, that’s all. I sincerely appreciate where you’re coming from, indeed – my jadedness is my issue to deal with when it comes to work and organizations (tho’ Ive been through so many cycles of ways to improve performance, morale , engagement etc.

I really think it boils down to some simple questions that demand honest answers … of both parties … the following asked from the point of view of an organization.

    1. Do you want to be here, and doing this … yes, or no ?

    2. If yes, is it only about the money … yes, or no ?

3a. If yes, here’s the deal, and you do it this way. If we have questions, we’ll ask you.

3b. If no, what else is it about and does working here help you address it ?

    4. If yes, great. If no, why are you here ?

At the individual level, working on anything other than what empassions you, enables you to live in a healthy place and way, contributes to a society and do no harm … is counter-productive to our collective future.

At the organizational level … what has to be sorted out, and soon, for the good of us all, is whether or not the pursuit of economic profit is the only really worthwhile focus, or whether the rights and responsibilities of living and operating in an open and civil society pertain to organizations and workplaces … what we have to day is porogressive orgs that would call themselves socially responsible have many types of initiatives where employees and corp resources become involved in community development and societally supportive endeavours … but no challenge to the accepted paradigms of growth and profit and resource utilization/depletion rather than investment for the future.
