[...] Antispyware creators will get hit by Vista By Vincent | Related entries in Windows Vista New security features in Windows Vista will largely eliminate the need to run separate antispyware or firewall software, according to a new analyst report. As we know Microsoft is bundling its Defender software into Windows Vista, so the new operating system may reduce the need for disk encryption, device control and certain types of host intrusion-prevention software. “Yankee Group expects Vista to significantly shrink the aftermarket for antispyware and desktop firewalls,” analyst Andrew Jaquith wrote in the report.
[...] New beta for Windows Anti-Spyware By Vincent | Related entries in Windows Vista, Windows XP Oops, we shoud call it “Defender” and not Anti-Spyware, so it seems;) The Defender software got a minor update with improvements to the user interface and signature updating. As you may know the Defender will be integrated into Windows Vista, so at this time it’s only available as a add-on to WinXp. [...]

It seems like that really should be a part of the OS and probably should have been for a long time. I'm sure there will be grousing and a great hue and cry will be raised by the security companies who make their living off of Windows shortcomings, but really, in the grand scheme of things, I think Microsoft would be negligent to continue to put out Operating Systems without their own means of protecting themselves.

The simple fact is that a decent Spyware, Anti Virus, and Firewall should be considered a prerequisite for owning a Microsoft operating system. I applaud them for including it, despite what I'm sure will be an ugly battle.
