AOPA Warns Additional AZIZ Likely
This week AOPA sent out a warning that general aviation pilots should not get comfortable with the current “temporary” ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone) in Washington, D.C. There is also currently a temporary ADIZ in New York City. Other cities such as Chicago are pushing to have an ADIZ established in their city. (No surprise there with aviation unfriendly Mayor Daley in office.)
“The ‘temporary’ ADIZ was created on a weekend in response to a heightened national threat level,” said AOPA President Phil Boyer. “That’s why AOPA continues to fight so hard against the Washington ADIZ. And why, very soon, we will be asking all AOPA members to join the fight. The D.C. ADIZ was ill conceived and is operationally unworkable. We must stop the specter of an ADIZ in your back yard.”
AOPA hints that we should get ready to fight against proposals for new ADIZs popping up as the FAA doesn’t seem to understand the definition of “temporary”.
