Apple To Schools: Bye eMac, Hello iMac

Yup you heard it right! Apple is now discontinuing the eMac and replacing it with an $899 dollar version of the iMac. This is Apple’s educational version of the iMac targeted at schools and students. The iMac features a 1.83 Core Duo processor, 512MB RAM, 80GB hard drive. It also sports the same built-in iSight as it’s more expensive siblings.
The iMac is available now through Apple’s education store. The features of the educational iMac are:
- 17-inch widescreen LCD display
- 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor
- 512MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM expandable to 2GB
- 24x Combo drive
- Intel GMA 950 graphics
- built-in iSight video camera
- built-in AirPort Extreme wireless networking
- 80GB Serial ATA hard drive running at 7200 rpm
- mini-DVI out (adapters for DVI, VGA and Composite/S-Video sold separately)
- built-in stereo speakers and microphone
- Mighty Mouse and Apple Keyboard.

Wow at $899 it’s a good deal for students and schools. Sure you can get cheaper computers but they aren’t Apples and certainly not an iMac…
