Apple Updates Macbooks

Apple updated its consumer laptop computers, the Macbooks. May 15 saw the 2nd update since the introduction of the Macbook last year. The Macbooks now come with faster processors and 1GB RAM across the board. The 1.83 ghz processor is gone. The entry level Macbook now sports a 2.0 Ghz processor with 1GB RAM and an 80GB hard drive. The mid-range model features a 2.16 Ghz processor with a 120GB hard drive. The top of the line black Macbook sports a similar 2.16 Ghz processor but with a more massive 160GB hard drive. The rest of the specs remain pretty much the same.

As each update comes, I really feel that the Macbook is one of the best bang for buck laptops out there. The specs are good for your average consumer, especially since even the entry level Macbooks now come with 1GB RAM, it’s no longer lacking in this aspect. The only gripe I have with the entry level is the lack of a Superdrive. I know Apple wants to differentiate it with its mid-range brother but c’mon… Superdrives should be standard by now.

The press release is here and you can learn more about the Macbook here.

  1. In all fairness, an 80GB hard drive, on a MacBook, seems smallish in our “rip your DVDs on your hard drive”-times.

And the keyboard. It’s slick alright but boy, it does take some time to get comfortable with it.
