Appraising Commitment

Slacker Manager recently made a post about the value of commitment to a business (thanks to the reference from Miki!).  How much is commitment worth?  Apparently, it can be worth upwards of $1,000!

When you are hiring employees and weeding out the ones who are not totally dedicated to your business, do you think the trade-off of the $1,000 outweighs the return of a committed employee?  I think so.

So many managers/CEO’s can go on a witch hunt for loyalty (or the exact opposite).  Paying people to quit should NOT be seen as incentive, but rather a test of will and dedication.  The “bonus” is a tipping point for those who will not move the company in the right direction.  To grow a company, one must believe in the company.  Would rejecting the offer be convincing enough?
