One of the fine traditions around the world, in various media, is the April Fool’s news report. Naturally, this has translated to the Internet, where it is possible to find a plethora of fake reports and posts about things that aren’t really happening. The world of personal finance has its own jokesters as well. Here are some of the personal finance highlights from April Fool’s Day 2009:
- The Death of the Penny from Cash Money Life. Apparently, reports of the penny’s demise are greatly exaggerated.
- Brand New 2009 Economic Stimulus at Free From Broke. Too bad this awesome economic stimulus package just isn’t real.
- Canada Buys US from Personal Dividends. When the U.S. and Canada merge, New York state becomes South Ontario. Quebec goes to France and Russia bids on Alaska.
- The Amero is Adopted over at GFT Forex. In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that this is something I “reported” on for GFT.
- The Economist launches a theme park. The venerable financial publication offers rides like “the currency high-roller” and “Bankrupt Britain.”
- Free Money Finance sells out, with the site’s new owners offering “fun” new content. But FMF doesn’t care; he’s got a payday of almost 7 figures.
Have you come across any great April Fool’s Day posts?

heheh. April Fool’s Day is always a lot of fun. :)
Wha? Are you saying my report is false? I just “spiced” up the previous stimulus plan.
Thanks for stopping by, guys! April Fool’s is a good time. And I would never say you were “lying”, FFB. Maybe just exaggerating a bit ;)
