Are You A Forbes 200 Best Small Company?

Forbes has some prints some very influential business lists throughout the year. Coming up in November 2nd issue of Forbes is the Forbes list of “200 Best Small Companies in America.”

I’m not sure the list represents the typical small business, since many are much smaller than the businesses on the Forbes list. Looking at the criteria, I’m not sure most would consider most of the businesses on this list “small.”

So what does it take to make the list?

Forbes’ list of 200 Best Small Companies in America is comprised of companies that have shown both sales and earnings growth. Candidates must have annual revenue between $5 million and $750 million, be publicly traded for at least a year, and have a stock price no lower than $5. Rankings are based on earnings growth, sales growth and return on equity in the past 12 months and over five years. Each company’s stock performance was also compared with those of its peers.

Keep chugging along, and maybe in a few years your small business will make the list. You never know! Something for your small business to shoot for next year?
