Are you a sleepworker?

Staples recently announced a results of a poll that said small business owners use their time sleeping to create plans and solve problems for their businesses while awake.

Fifty-one percent of small-business professionals said their work life has actually become a part of their dreams, and nearly 70 percent of those “sleepworkers” reported that they wake up and put their “work dreams” into action, according to the 2nd Staples National Small Business Survey.

Sleep isn’t the only time small-business professionals think about work. Nearly 40 percent of the respondents said they get some of their best ideas behind the wheel, and 72 percent admitted to making business calls while driving.

For me, I do my best thinking while in the shower.

Are you a sleepworker? Or is there another place/time you think most creatively?

  1. I have to admit that while sleep-working occurs, my best ideas come when I remember to turn the car radio off and I am on my commute. It is so prevelant that I have to use my phone as a recording device or I lose some of my best ideas.

Shannon and Karl- also seem to have great ideas in the car with the radio off. I write down stuff while I’m driving- probably need to use a recorder. I don’t seem to remember my dreams, although I know that I dream.

  3. I do some sleepworking too. It’s interesting how some of the best ideas just pop into my head when I’m not thinking about them.

I find I sleepwork most when I am in the midst of busy projects, or when I start something brand new. Often the problems I’ve had work themselves out on their own.

When I get an idea and I’m driving, I call myself and leave a voicemail, or I use Jott.com and leave a note that gets e-mailed to myself. That’s helpful too.

I do get ideas sleeping and showering. I also find I get quite a few ideas while brushing my teeth…so much so that I’m tempted to not brush my teeth on Saturdays – so I can take a day off!!! (But I do it anyway!!!)

p.s. – I love the picture of the shower curtain!

Good thing for my kids that I didn’t see that while there were in school! I would have ensured they learned the periodic elements and turned them all into chemists!!
