Are You Actually Using the Language Bar

I don’t know how many computers I’ve seen where there’s a little application sitting in the toolbars that I’m always surprised to see. Perhaps the more surprising aspect of the thing now is that I’m still surprised when I see it. What is this application I keep seeing? The Windows Language Bar!

Windows Language Bar, Do you use it?

Every time I see the toolbar active on someone’s system I ask myself, “Are you really using this?”. I haven’t met anyone yet that actually does use it, but I always see it. That leaves me to ask the question of why? Why is it still active. Why was it activated in the beginning in the first place?

Let’s take care of getting rid of it using the instructions below.

  1. Right-click on a blank space in your toolbar and a submenu displays
  2. Go to “Toolbars”
  3. Deselect the Language Bar

Ta da! You’re done! So easy, now you don’t have to waste any time or screen real-estate to looking at something you don’t even use.

Yeah I’ve never used it. I just turned it off.

I’m using two different keyboard layouts, EN and RO, therefore the language bar stays there; however, I only let it show me the current language I’m typing in, so it doesn’t clutter my taskbar too much.

However, I did see people who never use it but keep it enabled nonetheless; it’s the type of computer user who also installs 5 different browser toolbars because they were bundled, never bothers to use them, never bothers to remove them. And I couldn’t care less.

  3. nope i dont use the language bar at all.

  4. Don’t use the method posted above, it’ll come back! Click the small triangle on the Language bar, then click “Settings”. On this next screen, click “Language Bar…” down in the “Preferences” section at the bottom. Finally, deselect “Show the Language bar on the desktop”.

This will permanently remove the Language bar so it doesn’t come back after a reboot. :)

Eric thanks for adding that comment. I had booted my computer the last couple of times and noticed it was back for me. I kept thinking I hadn’t turned it off again when I had it up for grabbing the screen shots but it kept coming back. Your method is the one I usually use, but thought the other one would be easier for people. Good to know this method is the one that works permanently. Thanks again.
