Are you making a difference? With Microsoft Windows Live Messenger you can just by doing what you’re already doing if you’re a user.

I received an announcement in Facebook this evening letting me know of this fundraising campaign being promoted by Microsoft. The campaign basically donates a portion of the advertising revenue that’s generated by users starting a conversation with their Windows Live Messenger client.

I think this a great idea and way to raise money for charities.

i’m is a new initiative from Windows Live Messenger. Every time you start a conversation using i’m, Microsoft shares a portion of the program’s advertising revenue with some of the world’s most effective organizations dedicated to social causes. We’ve set no cap on the amount we’ll donate to each organization. The sky’s the limit.

So any time you have an i’m conversation using Windows Live Messenger, you help address the issues you feel most passionate about, including poverty, child protection, disease, and environmental degradation. It’s simple. All you have to do is join and start an instant messaging conversation. We’ll handle the donation.

Here are the organizations you can choose from to specify where your contributions are going.

My old office used to use MSN Messenger exclusively for internal office communications as well as tele-commuters and individuals that worked in some of our other corporate offices and account locations. Something like this would have been a great way to really make an impact as there were probably 1,000 conversations started a day across the entire office.

Pretty cool eh? Find out more here.
