Financial Planning: Being Honest With Yourself

One of the hardest things for many people to do is to be honest with themselves. And, when it comes to financial planning, this can be extremely difficult for some people. In fact, many of them don’t want to get down to the nitty-gritty of their true financial situation. Before you can move forward into yielding wealth and charting a course with financial goals, you have to be honest with yourself. I have mentioned being brutally honest with yourself before. That’s because this is important.
Being brutally honest is more than looking at your financial situation and saying: “This is where I’m at.” Being brutally honest in the financial planning process means that you have to look at where you are and then honestly assess how you got there. Then you have to identify things that you need to change. No matter your financial goals — getting out of debt, early retirement, great vacation — you will likely need to make a fundamental change in how you approach money to reach them.
And that means an honest evaluation of why you are where you are, and what you need to do to change your current course. And that could mean giving up a part of yourself that you are clinging to.
